Data and Media & Entertainment: Bringing Content to Life

IS YOUR MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT CONTENT WORTH PROTECTING?

Data Intense Rich Content Challenges Media & Entertainment Industry

The media and entertainment (M&E) industry is undergoing a paradigm shift in data storage driven by massive volumes of digital content generated from much larger assets, and continually growing in both size and density. Petabyte-scale storage architectures and new data-intensive formats are required to address the creation, editing, manipulation and transmission of this digital data in support of initial production efforts, collaborative editing and post-production activities. In an industry where content is paramount, it’s never been more important to archive and protect digital assets.

Bringing Data to Life and Helping to Protect it to Last Forever

As today’s media workflows increase in size and speed and with big data analysis and fast data processing added to the mix, the need to better manage the entire lifecycle of content becomes even more important. Building an efficient and effective workflow requires the use of a hybrid storage infrastructure, as well as leveraging the speed benefits of on-premises storage with the distribution capabilities of cloud.

THE M&E INDUSTRY AGREES

EPFL (École Polytechnic Fédérale de Lausanne) is responsible for preserving 50 years of music performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and making the archives widely available for research and public use. No easy task especially when content was recorded and stored in different formats, devices and locations, over the years.

To meet these goals requires an infrastructure capable of digitizing, capturing and ingesting the festival’s AV content and event-related contextual content (photos, testimonials, etc.) for long-term preservation.
